Public Safety Communication is looking at launching a new campaign to curb bogus emergency calls.

The Commander of the PSC in Calgary says they receive three-to-four hundred 9-1-1 hang-up calls every day.

Nina Vaughn tells 660News those calls not only cost taxpayers about a million dollars a year, but can slow down response times to real emergencies.

Vaughn says a previous public service campaign did help highlight the problem about so called pocket dialling, but failed to reduce call volume.

She says their next campaign will not only offer solutions, but will encourage people to know where they are, when they do dial 9-1-1 .

Cellphone users are being encouraged to lock their phones when not in use, and those who work in office towers where you have to dial “9″ to get an outside line to be more careful when pounding the dial pad.

The yearly call volume to the Public Safety Communications is closely in on the 1-million mark.
