A low score for Alberta’s electoral system from an independent organization.
The 126 page document from the Foundation of Democratic Advancement gives our province an overall score of 54 percent for electoral fairness.
F-D-A Executive Director Stephen Garvey tells 660News, the timing of the report is no coincidence.
“Our intent in releasing the report now is solely to inform the public with an election just around the corner,” says Garvey.
“We are hoping they can use this information to make a more informed choice at the ballot box.
Among the main research findings, there is no provincial requirement that radio and television broadcasters have to be non-partisan and balanced in their electoral coverage.
The study also found Alberta has the fastest growing gap between rich and poor in Canada which could impact electoral donations.
