Weekend warning for snow in Alberta

A big change in the forecast means Calgary won’t be getting as much snow as originally anticipated this weekend, but outside the city it’s a different story.

660News Meteorologist David Spence is recommending to delay travel outside city limits this weekend.

“Snow is still coming to Alberta for the weekend and warnings are up north of Calgary; from Whitecourt through Red Deer and Edmonton then east toward Coronation, 10 centimetres plus expected there,” says Spence.

“In Calgary we’re looking at much less snow than earlier thought,” he says.  “We might only get two to five centimetres of snow Saturday; it’ll start as flurries Friday night and become more steady for Saturday.”

Spence says the biggest concern could be the wind; it will gust up to 60 kilometres per hour from the northwest, which will cause reduced visibility, as well as blowing snow in open areas.
