Auto insurance rates in Alberta have increased by 3 per cent in the past year, according to an online website that compares prices.
Despite the increase, Janine White of Kanetix tells 660News there are ways to save money on your insurance policies.
“Making sure that your property and auto insurance are with the same company,” White says is one way to save on what you spend on insurance. “It can be 5 to 15 per cent discount. A lot of consumers are eligible for that. So they need to make sure they’re getting it. There’s a winter tire discount that some companies offer.”
Some insurance companies offer as much as a 5 per cent discount for winter tires.
Where you work, or where you went to school, can also impact the cost of your insurance policy.
“Depending on where you went to university or where you work, there’s often group plans that if you state where you work or where you’ve gone to school, there’s association discounts called a group discount which could also make them eligible for a cheaper rate,” adds White.
Besides looking for discounts, she says drivers should also review their policies if they get married, buy a new vehicle or add drivers to their coverage.
