Ongoing global economic turmoil is starting to take its toll on business confidence in the country.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business reports optimism levels among its members tumbled in August to their lowest level since the summer of 2009.

Alberta business owners are expressing the most confidence about the future, although fewer companies are saying they plan to hire in the coming months.
