Day three for Prince William and Kate’s Canadian royal visit

OTTAWA, Ont. – It will be a different type of day for William and Kate on day three of the royal visit.

The events planned on Saturday for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be more intimate compared to Friday.

Some 300-thousand jubilant people packed Parliament Hill, where Prince William and Kate helped them celebrate Canada’s 144th birthday.

In his speech, William brought greetings from the queen who was at the celebrations a year ago.

“To mark today, my Grandmother, the Queen of Canada … Has asked me to convey her warmest, good wishes to the people of Canada,” said William.

He saved his warmest words for Canada’s soldiers and said that the Canadian Military has always led the world in rallying to the defence of freedom.

Kate wowed the crowd by wearing Canada’s red and white colours. She wore her white dress from her engagement photos and a red hat with maple leaf on it.

Saturday, the royal couple will plant a tree at Rideau Hall, and then visit the Canadian War Museum for a reception with veterans, war brides, and families.

In the afternoon, Prince William and Kate fly from Ottawa to Montreal, where the reception might be less than enthusiastic.

Several protests against the monarchy are planned during the two days the royal couple will spend in Quebec.

Separatists in Quebec have a history of disrupting royal tours, including a 2009 visit to Montreal by William’s father, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla.
