Has this weather got you down?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We haven’t had many nice, sunny days so far this spring, and some people are getting downright ornery about it. News1130 is talking with our top prognosticator about a weather record we don’t really want to break.

News1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says May — unfortunately — is looking a lot like April. “Back in 1972, we had the coldest April of all time; last month came in second place.”

“It has been an unseasonably wet month of May as well,” he explains. “We’ve got more than 100 millimetres in the rain gauge right now. That puts us into the Top 10.”

“We’ve had an average daily temperature of only 11 degrees,” says Lacate. “It’s been the coldest May in 37 years… We are teetering very close to what could be described as the worst spring weather on record!”

But psychologists say linking depression to a lack of sunshine many times is all about perception. So cheer up, summer will be here soon!
