Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor has died at the age of 79 of congestive heart failure.
Taylor had been plagued with back problems and health issues from a young age.
She was a precocious child who soared to fame in the horse story National Velvet and grew into a stunning diva who ruled the silver screen.
She was dazzlingly beautiful and fiery on the big screen. She won an Oscar nomination for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1959.
Her first Oscar win was for Butterfield 8 in 1960 with then-husband Eddie Fisher.
Taylor was scorned by Hollywood when Fisher left his wife and Taylor’s good friend Debbie Reynolds to marry Elizabeth.
Taylor won her second Oscar in 1967 for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Later in life, Taylor became an early champion for AIDS causes following the death of her friend Rock Hudson.
She won the prestigious Jean Hersholt humanitarian award at the Oscars in 1993 for her AIDS work.
She also launched a highly successful perfume company spearheaded by the big seller White Diamonds.
