Huge audience tunes into Grammys; Canadian winners congratulated

TORONTO, Ont. – 3.3. million people across Canada and 26.6 million in the U.S. had their television sets tuned to the Grammys Sunday night.

The ratings for this year’s music awards show were up 21 per cent in Canada over last year, and drew the show’s largest TV audience in a decade south of the border.

The Canadian audience peaked at 4.4 million viewers when Stratford-born Justin Bieber took the stage.

Meanwhile, Canadians continued to sing the praises of Arcade Fire Monday, after the Montreal indie band won the prestigious ‘album of the year’ award.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a statement congratulating the rockers, as well as Neil Young and Michael Buble, who won awards for ‘best rock song’ and ‘best traditional pop vocal album’.

The city of Montreal’s web site has a red banner across its home page congratulating Arcade Fire.
