Calgary’s mayor-elect and Alberta’s premier meet

The two have talked on the phone and shook hands but Mayor-elect Naheed Nenshi and Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach will have their first sit-down meeting Thursday.

Thirty minutes have been set aside for the “getting to know you” chat at the McDougall Centre in downtown Calgary.

Premier Stelmach says he’s looking forward to meeting the first Muslim mayor of a major Canadian city.

But Stelmach has served notice that Nenshi shouldn’t expect any additional funding from the province.

The premier says Calgary has already received $1-billion over the past three years.

Two costly infrastructure projects are included among Nenshi’s top four priorities, as he gets ready to move into the mayor’s chair next week.

Nenshi would like to draw up plans that would bring about the construction of both a proposed airport tunnel and the southeast leg of the LRT.
