Wacky weather damage

There will be no relief Tuesday from wild weather in Calgary or in southern Alberta.

Heavy rainfall warnings are already in place for Airdrie, Cochrane and many areas north of Calgary.

100 millimetres of rain is expected in those parts of the province.

In Calgary, we’re in for about 20 millimetres.

Tuesday’s heavy rain comes right on the heels of golf-ball sized hail Monday, that took out flowers, left dents in vehicles and sent people scrambling for cover.

Insurance companies are bracing for a huge number of damage claims.

The hail caused about $100,000 in damage to a research greenhouse at the University of Calgary.

Home and business owners in Hillhurst tell 660News the damage is particularly bad there, with ripped roofs, dented windows, flooded streets and torn tree branches.

Some people were so surprised by the storm they took some hail stones home as souvenirs to put in the freezer.
