Threat of terrorism low, more concerned with anarchist groups, CSIS director says

TORONTO, Ont. – The head of Canada’s spy agency said the upcoming G8 and G20 summits don’t appear to be the subject of terrorist chatter.
In an interview with the CBC, Richard Fadden, director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, said he is more worried about anarchist and extremist groups.
“One thing I am worried about is the lone wolf, who’s had a year or two to organize his or her activities, and comes in unexpectedly and does more damage than might be able to do otherwise,” Fadden said.
On their websites, many are promoting confrontation and violence during protests in Toronto.
One group in particular plans to target the security fence surrounding the downtown core in an effort to bring it down.
Steve Summerville, a law enforcement security expert, told 680News things could get very aggressive.
“[Toronto] is the mainstage, and this is the main event,” Summerville said.
“They will attempt to assault, try to create disorder, specifically cause damage, [are] known to carry weaponry and also engage weaponry with chemicals, such as firebombs and/or pepper spray.”
