Condolences pouring in for Calgary Herald journalist

Colleagues, politicians and fellow journalists are paying tribute to Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang.

Lorne Motley, editor-in-chief of the Calgary Herald, tells 660News it’s a dark day at the paper with many tears being shed.

He describes Lang as kind-hearted and warm, adding her loss leaves a huge hole in their newsroom.

The Calgary Herald journalist was recently engaged and Motley says all of their thoughts are with Lang’s fiance Michael and her family.

In a release, Dennis Skulsky, president and CEO of Canwest Publishing, says “Michelle, along with being an award winning journalist was also much beloved by her colleagues at the Calgary Herald, Canwest News Service and across our organization. This loss is immeasurable.”

660News morning show anchor Cindy White first met Lang in Prince George where they were both working as journalists in the mid-1990’s.

She says her friend was a great journalist who had guts and wasn’t afraid to wade into controversy.

One of the beats Lang covered for the Calgary Herald was health and Ron Liepert also offered his condolences Wednesday night.

Alberta’s health minister says “Michelle covered health issues with professionalism, accuracy and thoroughness. She was tenacious in her quest to inform Albertans, and for her diligence she was very well respected.”
