Security concerns affect YYC

The attempted bombing of a Northwest Airlines flight on Christmas Day has prompted Transport Canada to beef up security at the country’s airports, including Calgary’s.

Westjet Spokesman Richard Bartrem tells 660News, if you’re flying out of Calgary to the US, be patient and arrive at the airport three hours ahead of time.

Travellers are told to expect increased delays going through security and a secondary search, once they get to their departure gate.

Not only are there going to be more searches of passengers and bags, but passengers are only allowed one carry-on item.

Meanwhile, a Canadian security expert says Canadian passengers should definitely expect more delays because of the new regulations.

George Kolisnek tells CTV News, security staff are already extra careful at this time of year because large holiday crowds provide excellent cover for possible terrorists.

Kolisnek adds the best way for you to prepare for the new restrictions is to go online and read the rules yourself, just log on to your airport’s or airline’s website.
