Be prepared for Boxing Day shopping

How mad will the malls be?

Some stores which had 5 a.m. openings were expecting overnight line-ups.

General Manager of Cross-Iron Mill James Moller says they could get as many as 50,000 shoppers. That’s about the same as they had for their grand opening back in August.

Moller tells the Calgary Herald, many customers will be cashing in gift cards.

It’s an interesting observation since a spokesperson for Moneris, the biggest processor of debit and credit card payments in the country says Alberta was the only province to see a drop in spending in the final week before Christmas.

So, how does the consumer cash in?

Adam Wither is a Boxing Day pro and says Saturday is not the day to buy a Nintendo Wii, for example, because it is in high demand so the price will likely stay the same. He says to write out what you want so you stay on track.
