Another possible H1N1 death in Calgary

A 35-year-old Calgary man has died, and his family are saying it’s due to the H1N1 flu.

Alberta Health Services will only say it’s too early to say if the man died of the virus.

He had been in intensive care since November 11th at the Foothills Hospital, and was in the same room as 16-year-old Michael Gorbus who died last Tuesday from the swine flu.

CTV News reports it’s now up to the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death in this case.

The man did have some risk factors that would increase the severity of an H1N1 infection; he was overweight and a smoker.

His family says they hope people don’t become complacent about H1N1 and the vaccination program.
